Client

The University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center is the U.S. News and World Report's #1 ranked hospital in the nation for cancer care, research, and education.

Challenge

M.D. Anderson's website was failing to serve as a crucial medium for patient support and guidance, particularly in the pre-appointment, diagnosis, and recovery stages.

Solution

NavigationArts began the strategic redesign with a variety of user research activities. During one-on-one and group interviews, patients and their families talked about the journey from cancer diagnosis, to treatment and recovery, and what they were looking for on the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center website to guide them through each life-changing phase.

The interviews lead to a new section called “Patient Care Essentials” - Your First Appointment, Managing YourTreatment, Getting Support - that facilitates new patients’ initial contact with the institution and shepherds them through the treatment process.

Other Project Highlights Included:

  • User-centered site structure that provides intuitive pathways to information
  • Interaction flows for key transactional activities
  • Comprehensive plan for content reuse based on audience needs
  • Brand-building user interface design, including several alternative creative approaches
  • XHTML and CSS development to support the Percussion CMS Implementation
