Sustainable ApplicationsLandScope America

LandScope America is an online resource for the land-protection community and the public. Landscope's custom application allows for seamless navigation to conservation information, maps, and an intricate search component that enables users to sort data by priority level and other critical factors.

The Challenge

LandScope America's mission is to incite public action. But without a way to effectively depict critical conservation information, LandScope was unable to drive user action beyond passive consumption.

The Solution: Custom Application

NavigationArts built a custom map viewer application to serve as the central navigation device on the site. Using the tool, visitors can:

  • Explore conservation issues on the national, state, and local levels
  • Search by conservation themes and priorities, such as threats to specific wildlife and ecosystems
  • Overlay multiple data layers
  • Design, print, and share maps
  • View geo-referenced photos, videos, and stories

Project Results Included:

  • Usability testing of live beta release
  • Naming, branding, and creation of a visual identity for LandScope America
  • Website development in Percussion CMS and application development using custom Java coding

The Client

LandScope America, a collaborative project of NatureServe and the National Geographic Society, is a new online resource for the land-protection community and the public. By bringing together maps, data, photos, and stories about America’s natural places and open spaces, LandScope's goal is to inform and inspire conservation of our lands and waters.
