A Modern Look for National Museum of Women in the Arts

Washington, DC — April 3rd, 2012

NavigationArts is thrilled to announce the launch of a refreshed website for the National Museum of Women in the Arts (NMWA). Located in downtown Washington, DC, NMWA is the only museum in the world dedicated exclusively to recognizing the contribution of female artists. The launch of the website serendipitously coincides with NMWA’s 25th anniversary.

NMWA’s updated digital look is an outside-the-box interpretation of art on the web. Provocative scrolling images grab visitors attention and inspire action. Streamlined site architecture lets NMWA focus on the areas most important to the organization – education, community growth, and fundraising – while delivering a virtual inside look at current and upcoming exhibits.

“Launching our redesigned website is a signature 25th anniversary initiative and a great cause for celebration!” said NMWA’s Alice West Director Susan Fisher Sterling. “Thanks to our successful partnership with NavigationArts, a much wider universe of visitors, members, and donors will enjoy connecting with the National Museum of Women in the Arts. The new website showcases the collection beautifully and makes it much easier for members and visitors to find out about upcoming exhibitions, library projects, and education programming.”

The foundation of NMWA’s new web platform is the customized Drupal Content Management System (CMS), the popular modular-based, open-source CMS. Drupal allows for easy content sharing, rapid publishing, and cross-promotion of items across NMWA’s public-facing website, member website, newsletter, and magazine.

The NMWA website is a modern, layered art experience. NavigationArts’ user interface design team worked closely with the museum to ensure that the NMWA brand experience would be digitally progressive, sophisticated, and beautiful.

“Through www.nmwa.org, our core message that NMWA is about ‘art by women…for everyone’ comes through loud and clear, enabling the art and the stories of women artists to teach, enrich, and inspire,” said Sterling. “It is a wonderful 25th anniversary present to everyone who enjoys and supports the National Museum of Women in the Arts."
