Federal Computer Week Cites NavigationArts

McLean, Virginia — July 20th, 2009

In an article discussing positive user experience and transparency in government, Federal Computer Week cited NavigationArts' work with U.S. Department of State and quoted our experts on effective site search.

NavigationArts redesigned the intranet for the Bureau of Consular Affairs at the U.S. Department of State and continues to work on enhancements there. A major component of the project was to improve site search, a feature that was critical to users, but was broken. "All the content on the site was restructured so it is now organized by tasks, not by which department owns or created the content. The task structure makes it easier for visitors to find what they need," said Dustin Collis, NavigationArts' Director of Development.

NavigationArts' Director of Interaction Design, John Sutton, highlighted the importance of site search with some key statistics. "Ensuring that searches work well is important because 90 percent of organizations say it is the number one way people navigate websites. Also, about 80 percent of visitors will abandon a site if search is poor," John said.

NavigationArts has an extensive federal government practice focused on helping agencies leverage the web to achieve their mission and provide services to the citizen. NavigationArts helps develop effective web strategies for government and then implement them as highly usable, searchable websites, intranets, and portals.
