NavigationArts Selected to Redesign NPR's Intranet

October 26th, 2007

NavigationArts today announced that they have been selected to redesign National Public Radio’s intranet site to serve the needs of NPR employees in Washington, D.C., throughout the country, and around the world. NavigationArts will leverage their expertise in user-centered design and information architecture to make the NPR intranet more useful and usable.

NPR’s intranet is currently organized by department and division. An unintended consequence of the existing web structure is that a user must be familiar with the corporate structure to find the information they are searching for. Given the large number of reporters stationed away from NPR’s headquarters, and the stable of interns who continuously cycle through the organization, NPR has tapped NavigationArts to develop a new structure based on a user-centered model. NavigationArts will redesign the intranet according to the user’s goals and tasks, making the site more searchable – and therefore a more valuable resource for employees.

“This new intranet will be tailored to serve the needs of all of NPR’s employees, from reporters in Iraq to production staff at the headquarters in Washington, DC,” said Natalie Buda, Director of User Experience at NavigationArts. “We at NavigationArts greatly respect NPR’s mission, so we are particularly excited about this opportunity.”
