User Research Consultant

The NavigationArts User Research Consultant (URC) leads the user research phases of the project lifecycle, which can include focus groups, user surveys, web analytics and usability testing, and helps to maintain internal knowledge repositories concerning Internet best practices and user research functional knowledge. The URC also provides support to other team member, providing their expert opinion in web log analysis, user inputs, wire frames, user interface designs, and prototypes, as well as offering solutions to other project issues.

Responsibilities

  • Leading and managing the delivery of user research methods and tools including the testing, analysis, assessments, findings and recommendations.
  • Managing the administrative side of the user research methodologies including: prioritizing and scheduling all studies, securing participants and facilities if not provided
  • Devising the test plans for user research methodologies or supporting other roles in their creation
  • Working with team members to develop prototypes, wireframes or other test artifacts
  • Moderating or facilitating the usability testing sessions, focus groups, interviews or surveys
  • Compiling test results and analyzing data to develop recommendations and a detailed plan for improvements
  • Conducting post test debrief meetings with key project team members
  • Delivering presentations of the results and recommendations
  • Conducting analysis on web logs for the preparation of finding and recommendations.
  • Consulting with clients on the role of and best practices for web analytics in product development and maintenance
  • Keeping up to date with Internet best practices and the user research field
  • Maintaining knowledge repositories to distribute user research resources across the organization

The User Research Consultant has an excellent academic and professional background, strong interpersonal and presentation skills, and extensive experience working on consultative engagements. The URC is experienced in the processes and disciplines related to user experience design and development and has the following traits and experience:

Requirements

  • MA, MS, BA or BS degree
  • Minimum of two years of successful experience in the application of user research methods, assessments and techniques
  • Expert in a range of user research methods and techniques
  • Advanced knowledge of Internet and Web technologies and best practices
  • Experience moderating and facilitating individual and group user research sessions
  • Strong analytical skills for the processing of data
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong presentation skills
  • A passion for creating highly usable Web sites that optimize the user experience
